Broken Homes & Broken Families
Too many broken homes and too many broken families, children who are the future are caught up in what appears to be an endless battle of crime and an eerie feeling that they do not matter and no one cares. How can our country which has always been a beacon of light reach out to those who feel left behind? We have a duty as a nation to speak out on behalf of the voiceless and create a sense of hope where there is hopelessness. I believe that now is the time to tap into the creative wonders of the American people, where innovative solutions can be taught to parents who have fallen through the system. The parents must be re-educated to become responsible citizens whose solemn duty among other things, is to properly bring up their children and prepare them for the future. Our teachers today are overburdened with dealing with behavior problems from children due to dysfunctional parenting. There are two key challenges that must be addressed; one is a spirit of lawlessness and the other is the aftermath of the lawlessness and that is youth crime.
Lawlessness and Crime
Peter speaks with passion. Save our children, for the future belongs to them.
Before I begin to make suggestions on how to solve some of the intractable problems in the lives of our youth and adults involved in major crimes, let me state this “ Crime is everywhere and there appears to be no restrictions or barriers that some of our youth are willing to cross.” Never before has this great nation faced a spirit of lawlessness among our youth and adults. When young girls in their teens pick on an innocent passenger on a train in New York and begin to beat him up for no apparent reason you begin to realize that something fundamentally is wrong here and needs to be addressed. As of December of 2007, our nation has been plagued with a wave of senseless crimes by young adults and teenagers. Unfortunately, our country has been put through a wave of suicide killings by depressed souls who take their lives along with others. Another familiar problem that has gotten worse is the crime in the inner city of America which is destroying an entire generation and in particular African American men. This is a serious problem that affects us all. No one can afford to be indifferent to what is going on in America 's inner city. Much of the crime in the inner city is now spreading to other areas of our society including urban and suburban America .
We see a growing Meth addiction in suburban America and for the first time in a decade, teenage pregnancy is on the rise again. Yet there is hope, for not all broken homes produce broken children. Parents that do not monitor their kids and do not spend quality time with their children will be in for an unpleasant surprise in this day and age. The temptations of our times and the negative influence that our children are lured into are far greater than what our parents experienced when they were growing up. Even worse the conscience of our society has been seared with many people accepting what is taking place as part of life.
*There needs to be a cooperative partnership between the federal, state and local government to deal with this issue head on.
*We have to make a decision of what to do with troubled kids; should we involve faith based institutions who have an indispensable track record of turning these troubled kids into hope filled citizens ?
- We need role models of various persuasions who will create sense of hope where there is hopelessness.
- We need to create a sense of destiny for people in an environment of destitution and despair.
- We need to help people to believe and love themselves. Self-hatred leading to suicide is growing.
- Obviously, a one size fits all government band-aid is not the answer and cannot teach a kid how to love nor give them a sense of belonging. All things created by our creator is beautiful yet the lives of some of our children is far from beautiful. When we all begin to look at every lost child to the vices of this world as our child we will have the strength, fortitude and wisdom as a country to address this growing problem.
- I believe we can start by working with the private sector on various mentorship programs and initiatives targeted at particular risk groups. We must be open to faith based institutions that are willing to take these kids. Teen Challenge is a good example of how an organization that is not afraid to utilize faith in turning people away from a life of lawlessness to life of endless opportunities. This is a good thing and I embrace it. There is no time to play politics about separation of church and state when people are dying. Even the maverick late Senator Paul Wellstone demonstrated wisdom and courage in lending support to faith based institutions that proved themselves to be capable of steering our youth in the right direction. Tomorrow it could be your kid that could be the victim or perpetrator of a violent crime. The American people are looking for solutions, not politics, they want real answers and not rhetoric. If the federal government is going to be contributing financially to these programs. I will agree that there must be complete Federal govt oversight, which is expected whenever money is given to any public institution---Dollars must be allocated on merit performance only and not on the faith of any institution.
Crime
- I am open to any suggestions on how to address the crime problem in our country. Obviously we need more street cops, community policing and after school program for our children. An idle mind is a devils play ground.
- Allowing technology to advance to a new level where an Amber alert system for tracking missing children can now be displayed on your cell phone. Wireless integration of this technology can save time and possibly save lives.
- Hire another 50,000 police officers nation wide to complement the excellent program
Bill Clinton had while in office that helped to reduce crime to its lowest level in a decade. He passed a powerful crime bill that called for 100,000 police officers and prevented the c op killer bullets from wider circulation. (bullets that pierce the bullet proof vest of our officers)
